dexamethasone + diclofenac

dexamethasone + diclofenac (preservative-free) is a combination treatment regimen consisting of the corticosteroid dexamethasone 0.1% (as Monofree Dexamethason) and the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) diclofenac 0.1% (as Dicloabak). This preservative-free formulation is used to manage postoperative inflammation and prevent cystoid macular edema following cataract surgery, while aiming to reduce the incidence of iatrogenic dry eye disease compared to preserved alternatives. Dexamethasone functions as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist to inhibit inflammatory pathways, and diclofenac acts by inhibiting cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzymes, thereby reducing prostaglandin synthesis. This specific combination is the subject of a Phase 4 clinical trial conducted by Universitaire Ziekenhuizen KU Leuven.
