Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A perioperative glucocorticoid regimen consisting of a single intraoperative dose of intravenous dexamethasone followed by a six-day oral methylprednisolone taper. Developed by Vanderbilt University Medical Center, this combination is being investigated in the SAFE Trial (Steroid Administration for Articular Fractures of the Elbow) to improve post-operative range of motion in patients with intra-articular elbow fractures requiring surgery. The treatment aims to mitigate the inflammatory response and prevent joint stiffness or heterotopic ossification by suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokines.
