dexamethasone + neomycin + polymyxin B

This is a fixed-dose combination drug containing three active ingredients: dexamethasone (a synthetic corticosteroid), neomycin (an aminoglycoside antibiotic), and polymyxin B (a polypeptide antibiotic). It is primarily used as an ophthalmic preparation to treat or prevent bacterial eye infections and to reduce associated inflammation. Dexamethasone suppresses the inflammatory response by inhibiting multiple inflammatory cytokines and mediators. Neomycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit. Polymyxin B disrupts the integrity of the bacterial cell membrane in susceptible Gram-negative bacteria. The combination provides both anti-inflammatory effects (from dexamethasone) and broad-spectrum antibacterial coverage (from neomycin and polymyxin B).
