Overview

Dexamethasone + tropisetron is a fixed-dose combination of two pharmaceutical agents used primarily for the prevention and management of nausea and vomiting, especially in patients undergoing chemotherapy, stem cell transplantation, or surgery such as thyroidectomy. Dexamethasone is a synthetic glucocorticoid with potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant properties. It acts by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor, inhibiting pro-inflammatory signals and promoting anti-inflammatory gene expression. Tropisetron is a selective serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist that blocks serotonin-mediated emetic signaling in the central nervous system. The combination provides synergistic antiemetic effects superior to either agent alone for both acute and delayed phases of nausea and vomiting[1][2][4]. This regimen also reduces postoperative pain compared to monotherapy with tropisetron[1].
