Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EGP-437 is a proprietary, preservative-free ophthalmic solution of dexamethasone phosphate (40 mg/mL) specifically designed for non-invasive delivery via the EyeGate II Delivery System. This system utilizes transcleral iontophoresis, where a low-level electrical current drives the ionized drug molecules directly into the ocular tissues, such as the sclera and anterior segment. This modality aims to achieve high local therapeutic concentrations of the corticosteroid while minimizing systemic exposure and avoiding the complications associated with subconjunctival or intraocular injections. Developed by EyeGate Pharmaceuticals, EGP-437 has been investigated for the treatment of various inflammatory ocular conditions, including non-infectious non-necrotizing anterior scleritis and uveitis. Clinical studies, including those led by investigator John Kempen, have focused on evaluating the safety, tolerability, and preliminary efficacy of varying doses delivered through this iontophoretic method.
