Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EGP-437 is a reformulated, topically active corticosteroid—dexamethasone phosphate—specifically designed for non-invasive ocular delivery via iontophoresis using the EyeGate II Drug Delivery System. The drug is intended to treat inflammatory and pain-related conditions of the eye, including non-infectious anterior uveitis, post-cataract surgery inflammation and pain, dry eye syndrome, macular edema associated with retinal vein occlusion or diabetic retinopathy, and anterior scleritis. Its mechanism of action is based on the anti-inflammatory effects of dexamethasone by modulating glucocorticoid receptor activity to suppress pro-inflammatory cytokines and immune cell infiltration in ocular tissues. Clinical studies have shown that EGP-437 can reduce inflammation (anterior chamber cell count), improve symptoms in dry eye syndrome models, and provide pain relief after cataract surgery when delivered via trans-scleral iontophoresis. The product was developed by EyeGate Pharmaceuticals (now Kiora Pharmaceuticals). It has been evaluated in multiple clinical trials up to Phase 3 for various ocular indications but has not demonstrated statistical superiority over standard treatments in all endpoints[1][2][3][4][5][6].
