Overview

Dexfosfoserine, also known as O-phospho-L-serine, is a small molecule amino acid derivative and the phosphoric acid ester of L-serine. It functions as a potent and selective agonist for group III metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs), including mGluR4, mGluR6, mGluR7, and mGluR8. As an endogenous signaling molecule, it regulates neurogenesis by inhibiting neural stem cell proliferation and enhancing the survival of nascent neurons. It also modulates immune responses in the brain by partially blocking microglial phagocytosis of apoptotic cells. Clinically, dexfosfoserine is primarily utilized as a nutritional supplement or therapeutic agent to treat states of over-fatigue, cognitive exhaustion, and stress-related conditions, often mimicking the phosphatidylserine head group to support neuronal health.
