Overview

Dexketoprofen trometamol is the water-soluble salt form of dexketoprofen, which is the active right-handed (dextrorotatory) enantiomer of ketoprofen. It is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for short-term treatment of mild to moderate pain, including musculoskeletal pain, dysmenorrhea, dental pain, migraine headaches, and postoperative pain[1][3][5][6]. Dexketoprofen works by inhibiting both cyclooxygenase 1 and 2 (COX‑1 and COX‑2), thereby reducing prostaglandin synthesis involved in inflammation, pain, and fever[1][3][5]. The drug has a rapid onset of action—typically within 30 minutes—and can be administered orally or intravenously. It provides effective analgesia with an opioid-sparing effect in acute settings[6]. Dexketoprofen trometamol was developed as a chiral switch from racemic ketoprofen to improve therapeutic value and reduce gastrointestinal side effects[3].
