Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dexketoprofen trometamol is a water-soluble salt of the S(+)-enantiomer of ketoprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It functions as a non-selective inhibitor of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), which are enzymes responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins involved in pain and inflammation. Due to its trometamol salt formulation, it exhibits rapid absorption and a quick onset of analgesic action. Ataturk University has conducted Phase 4 research into its use for renal colic, specifically comparing intravenous dexketoprofen trometamol to ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane blocks for acute pain management.
