Overview

The rationale behind this combination is to overcome antibiotic resistance by targeting H. pylori with multiple mechanisms simultaneously. The proton pump inhibitor reduces gastric acid production, creating a more favorable environment for antibiotic activity. The three antimicrobials work synergistically, with each agent potentially targeting strains resistant to the others, increasing the likelihood of successful eradication. This type of concomitant quadruple therapy is recommended as a first-line treatment option for H. pylori infection in areas with high clarithromycin resistance. The duration of therapy typically ranges from 5-14 days.
