Lidocaine functions as a sodium channel blocker, preventing the generation and conduction of nerve impulses. When used together, these drugs appear to have a combined effect that is greater than the sum of their individual effects, though it's unclear whether this is additive or synergistic[2]. ## Clinical Applications The combination has been studied for: - Dental anesthesia[1][8] - Sedation during surgical procedures[6] - Laparoscopic hysterectomy[5] - Intracranial aneurysm clipping surgery[7] - Reduction of oxidative stress in perioperative patients[7] Research indicates that this combination may be particularly beneficial for patients requiring both sedation and local anesthesia, as it provides enhanced anesthetic effects while maintaining cardiovascular stability. ## Safety Profile The combination appears to be cardiovascularly safe, even in hypertensive patients[1].
