Overview

This drug combination regimen consists of dexmedetomidine, propofol, and sufentanil, and is being investigated for procedural sedation in patients undergoing Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). Dexmedetomidine is a selective alpha-2 adrenergic agonist that provides sedation and analgesia without significant respiratory depression; in this specific protocol, it is administered via nasal spray as a premedication. Propofol is a short-acting intravenous anesthetic that acts as a positive allosteric modulator of the GABA-A receptor. Sufentanil is a potent synthetic opioid analgesic that primarily targets mu-opioid receptors. The combination is designed to synergistically achieve deep sedation while reducing the required dosage of propofol, thereby minimizing side effects such as intraoperative hypoxemia and improving postoperative recovery quality.
