Overview
Dexrabeprazole is the R-enantiomer of rabeprazole and belongs to the class of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). It acts by selectively inhibiting the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system located on the secretory surface of gastric parietal cells, thereby blocking the final step in gastric acid production. This results in a significant reduction in stomach acid secretion, providing relief from symptoms associated with acid-related gastrointestinal disorders. Dexrabeprazole is primarily indicated for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, duodenal ulcers, and pathological hypersecretory conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It may also be used as part of combination therapy for Helicobacter pylori eradication to reduce duodenal ulcer recurrence. Compared to racemic rabeprazole, dexrabeprazole may offer more potent acid suppression at lower doses due to its stereochemistry[1][2][4][5][6][8].
