Overview

Combination of dexrazoxane and epirubicin where dexrazoxane is administered as a cardioprotective agent before epirubicin (an anthracycline chemotherapy drug). Dexrazoxane protects against epirubicin-induced cardiotoxicity by binding to iron in the blood, preventing the formation of toxic iron-anthracycline complexes that would otherwise damage heart muscle cells. Clinical studies have shown that dexrazoxane given at a dexrazoxane:epirubicin dose ratio of 10:1 significantly reduces the risk of cardiotoxicity without affecting the anticancer efficacy of epirubicin.
