Overview

This is a combination chemotherapy regimen used primarily in the adjuvant treatment of high-risk stage II-IIIA breast cancer. The regimen typically involves sequential administration of dexrazoxane (a cardioprotective agent), followed by epirubicin (an anthracycline chemotherapeutic), and then paclitaxel (a taxane chemotherapeutic). Dexrazoxane is given to reduce the risk of cardiotoxicity associated with high-dose anthracyclines like epirubicin. The combination has been shown to be feasible and safe, with manageable toxicity profiles, including reversible neurotoxicity and low rates of severe cardiac events when administered as described[1][2][3]. Peripheral blood progenitor cell support and filgrastim are often used alongside this regimen to manage hematologic toxicity.
