Drug intelligence / Profile preview
dextran + iron dextran refers to a product portfolio or formulation developed by Shreya Biotech (Shreya Life Sciences), encompassing both the polysaccharide dextran and the iron-carbohydrate complex iron dextran. Iron dextran is a sterile injectable solution containing ferric iron complexed with low molecular weight dextran, designed for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia in patients for whom oral iron therapy is unsuitable or ineffective. Following parenteral administration, the complex is processed by the reticuloendothelial system, releasing iron that binds to transferrin for transport to the bone marrow or storage as ferritin. Dextran itself, a branched glucan polysaccharide, is also utilized independently as a plasma volume expander to treat hypovolemia. Shreya Biotech manufactures both the active pharmaceutical ingredients and the finished formulations in-house.
