Overview

**Dextran-curcumin** is an experimental covalent polymer-drug conjugate in which curcumin moieties are linked to dextran, creating an amphiphilic material that self-assembles into nanoparticles. Developed in academic studies as an anticancer nanomedicine and drug-delivery platform, the nanoparticles improved curcumin-related in vitro anticancer activity and were used to encapsulate and provide controlled release of methotrexate in MCF-7 breast-cancer cells. In a separate in vitro prostate-cancer study, dextran-curcumin nanoparticles were evaluated with doxorubicin and were associated with increased reactive oxygen species, apoptosis, inhibition of cell growth and migration, and modulation of epithelial-to-mesenchymal-transition-associated phenotypes. No clinical development, approved indication, marketed product, or assigned INN has been identified.
