dextranomer

Dextranomer is a synthetic, cross-linked hydrophilic dextran polymer used primarily as a wound-cleansing agent and a biocompatible bulking agent. When applied topically to exudative wounds, such as venous stasis or decubitus ulcers, it acts via capillary action to absorb exudate, debris, and microorganisms into its bead structure, facilitating natural healing. In its injectable form (often combined with sodium hyaluronate), it serves as a submucosal bulking agent in the anal canal to treat fecal incontinence by improving bowel control. Historically developed by Pharmacia, it is now marketed under various brands including Solesta and Deflux for internal use and Debrisan for topical wound care.
