Dextro Combo is a multi-ingredient pharmaceutical product typically formulated for the symptomatic relief of the common cold, allergic rhinitis, and non-productive cough. It most commonly refers to a fixed-dose combination of dextromethorphan hydrobromide (an antitussive), phenylephrine hydrochloride (a nasal decongestant), and chlorpheniramine maleate (an antihistamine). Dextromethorphan acts centrally on the cough center in the medulla to elevate the cough threshold. Phenylephrine is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist that induces vasoconstriction in the respiratory tract mucosa, thereby reducing swelling and congestion. Chlorpheniramine is a first-generation H1-receptor antagonist that alleviates allergic symptoms such as sneezing, itching, and rhinorrhea.
