Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dextroamphetamine saccharate is a salt form of dextroamphetamine, the dextrorotatory enantiomer of amphetamine and a centrally acting sympathomimetic stimulant used primarily in mixed amphetamine salt formulations for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. As a small-molecule central nervous system stimulant, dextroamphetamine enhances monoaminergic neurotransmission by promoting the release of dopamine and norepinephrine from presynaptic storage vesicles, reversing their transport via dopamine and norepinephrine transporters, and activating trace amine-associated receptor 1, thereby increasing extracellular catecholamine levels in key brain regions involved in attention and wakefulness.[2][3] This saccharate salt is typically used in combination with other dextroamphetamine and amphetamine salts in extended‑release and immediate‑release products, contributing to their overall pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profiles for once‑daily or divided dosing regimens in pediatric and adult patients.[5][10][11]
