Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Delflex** is a sterile intraperitoneal peritoneal dialysis solution containing **dextrose monohydrate, sodium chloride, sodium lactate, calcium chloride, and magnesium chloride** in water for injection. It is developed and manufactured by **Fresenius Medical Care** for maintenance peritoneal dialysis in **chronic kidney failure**, with use also described in renal failure settings more broadly. Its therapeutic effect is **physicochemical rather than receptor-mediated**: the **peritoneal membrane acts as the semipermeable dialysis membrane**, **dextrose creates an osmotic gradient** that promotes ultrafiltration and fluid removal, and the electrolyte/lactate composition supports solute exchange and acid-base balance during dialysis. The product was initially approved in the United States in **1984** and is supplied in multiple dextrose-strength and electrolyte formulations, including standard and low magnesium/low calcium variants.
