Overview

DELFLEX is a sterile, non-pyrogenic peritoneal dialysis solution containing dextrose monohydrate, sodium chloride, sodium lactate, calcium chloride, and magnesium chloride. Developed and manufactured by Fresenius Medical Care North America, it is indicated for the treatment of chronic kidney failure in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis. The solution functions as both an osmotic agent and an electrolyte replenisher. Dextrose serves as the primary osmotic agent, creating a gradient across the peritoneal membrane to facilitate ultrafiltration (the removal of excess water). The electrolytes (sodium, calcium, magnesium, and chloride) and the lactate buffer work to correct systemic electrolyte imbalances and metabolic acidosis. DELFLEX is administered intraperitoneally and is available in various dextrose concentrations (e.g., 2.5%, 4.25%) to allow for individualized patient management based on their fluid and electrolyte needs.
