Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DEXYCU (OT-502) is a sustained-release, 9% intraocular suspension of dexamethasone, a potent corticosteroid. It is specifically designed for the treatment of postoperative inflammation following cataract surgery. Originally developed by EyePoint Pharmaceuticals and licensed to Ocumension Therapeutics for the Greater China region, the drug is administered as a single intraocular injection into the posterior chamber or capsular bag at the conclusion of surgery. This delivery system provides a controlled release of dexamethasone for up to 22 days, effectively replacing the need for patient-administered steroid eye drops. Dexamethasone acts as an agonist of the glucocorticoid receptor, exerting anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects by inhibiting the expression of various inflammatory mediators. While FDA-approved in the United States, Ocumension has completed Phase 3 trials and submitted a New Drug Application (NDA) in China.
