**DF-HSA** is an investigational recombinant fusion protein comprising two human beta-defensin 2 molecules linked to human serum albumin. It was developed as a macropinocytosis-oriented antineoplastic biologic for KRAS-mutant pancreatic cancer: KRAS-mutant pancreatic cancer cells preferentially internalize the protein through macropinocytosis, leading to tumor accumulation, inhibition of proliferation, mitochondrial-pathway apoptosis, and suppression of MIA PaCa-2 pancreatic carcinoma xenografts in mice. Subsequent preclinical work reported inhibition of nuclear factor kappa B signaling and enhanced antitumor activity when combined with gemcitabine; a related DF2-HSA designation has also been evaluated in an LPS-induced murine cytokine-storm model.
