Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DFO Gel is a topical analgesic and anti-inflammatory formulation developed and marketed by Ozone Pharmaceuticals. Despite the "DFO" prefix, which is sometimes erroneously associated with the iron chelator deferoxamine, the product actually contains a combination of diclofenac diethylamine, linseed oil, methyl salicylate, and menthol. It is indicated for the management of acute and chronic pain related to muscles, joints, and bones, including conditions such as arthritis, sprains, strains, back pain, tendonitis, and sports injuries. Diclofenac acts as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), thereby reducing the production of inflammatory prostaglandins. Methyl salicylate and menthol serve as counter-irritants that provide a cooling sensation and local analgesic effects, while linseed oil contributes additional anti-inflammatory properties.
