Overview

DFP00173 is a **potent and selective small molecule inhibitor of aquaporin-3 (AQP3)**, a membrane channel protein involved in water and glycerol transport. DFP00173 inhibits both mouse and human AQP3 with an IC50 of approximately 0.1–0.4 μM and shows minimal activity against the homologous aquaporin subtypes AQP7 and AQP9. By blocking AQP3, DFP00173 reduces glycerol and hydrogen peroxide permeability in vitro, affecting cell migration and potentially cytokine signaling. It has utility as a tool compound for research on aquaporin function and may inform strategies for targeting AQP3 in diseases such as breast cancer and for immunological modulation[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][9][10].
