DG3173, also known as somatoprim or veldoreotide, is a synthetic heptapeptide and novel somatostatin analog that selectively binds to somatostatin receptor subtypes 2, 4, and 5. It is designed to suppress growth hormone secretion with reduced insulin-suppressive activity compared to other SSAs like octreotide. Octreotide is a well-established synthetic octapeptide and somatostatin analog that primarily targets receptor subtypes 2 and 5, used for the treatment of acromegaly, carcinoid tumors, and vasoactive intestinal peptide-secreting adenomas by inhibiting the release of growth hormone and various gastrointestinal hormones. Both drugs act by mimicking natural somatostatin but differ in their receptor selectivity profiles; combining them may be explored for enhanced efficacy in patients with acromegaly or neuroendocrine tumors who are non-responsive to standard SSA therapy[1][2][6][8].
