DG3173 + octreotide + placebo is a combination used in clinical trials to compare the pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic effects of two somatostatin analogues—DG3173 (also known as veldoreotide or somatoprim) and octreotide—against placebo. - **DG3173** is a novel, synthetic somatostatin analogue with high affinity for somatostatin receptor subtypes 2, 4, and 5. It suppresses growth hormone (GH) secretion in pituitary adenomas, including some tumors that are non-responsive to octreotide. Notably, it has reduced insulin-suppressive activity compared to other SSAs[7][8]. - **Octreotide** is a well-established synthetic analogue of natural somatostatin that primarily targets receptor subtypes 2 and 5; it is widely used for acromegaly and neuroendocrine tumors. The combination was studied mainly in the context of acromegaly to assess efficacy on GH suppression as well as safety/tolerability profiles[1][4][5]. Placebo serves as a control arm.
