Overview

DHA-O is a dietary supplement developed by DSM Nutritional Products, Inc. for the purpose of investigating its efficacy and safety in lowering elevated triglyceride levels in healthy adults with hypertriglyceridemia. Its active component, docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), is an omega-3 fatty acid known to reduce plasma triglyceride levels through multiple mechanisms, including the activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα), suppression of hepatic lipogenesis and very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) production, and enhancement of lipoprotein lipase (LPL) activity. Additionally, DHA-derived N-acyl taurines may inhibit intestinal triglyceride absorption.
