Overview

DHL-HisZnNa (also known as DHLHisZn or histidine dithioloctamide with Na/Zn) is a novel water-soluble and air-stable alpha-lipoic acid derivative. It was developed through a joint research collaboration between Aderans, Oita University, and its spinout Yufu Research. Chemically, it is a sodium N-(dihydrolipoyl)-L-histidinate zinc complex. DHL-HisZnNa acts as a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent. It is primarily being developed as a topical scalp lotion (marketed as HairRepro MEDI α) to prevent and promote recovery from chemotherapy-induced alopecia (CIA) in cancer patients, particularly those with breast cancer or gastrointestinal cancer undergoing chemotherapy. In clinical trials, topical application of DHL-HisZnNa has demonstrated efficacy in promoting hair regrowth and reducing scalp inflammation post-chemotherapy, especially when combined with scalp cooling therapy.
