DI-TSP is an approximately 1 kDa capped peptide mimetic derived from thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1), a potent antiangiogenic protein. It functions by suppressing the proliferation and migration of capillary endothelial cells and inducing receptor-dependent apoptosis in these cells, thereby disrupting tumor vasculature. Its primary mechanism involves targeting CD36, the antiangiogenic receptor on endothelial cells. DI-TSP has demonstrated antiangiogenic activity in vitro and has been shown to inhibit the growth of murine melanoma metastases and block the progression of primary human bladder tumors in orthotopic models. Abbott Laboratories was involved in its development.
