diabegon

Diabegon is a polyherbal Ayurvedic formulation developed for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It consists of a mixture of ten herbs: *Gymnema sylvestre* (Gurmar), *Eugenia jambolana* (Jamun seed), *Emblica officianale* (Amla), *Curcuma longa* (Haldi), *Pterocarpus marsupium* (Vijaysaar), *Terminalia chebula* (Harad), *Cassia fistula* (Amaltas), *Picrorhiza kurroa* (Kutki), *Swertia charita* (Chiraita), and *Terminalia bellerica* (Behada). The formulation is typically administered as a hot water extract (decoction) known as "Diabegon kwath." It exerts therapeutic effects through multiple mechanisms, including the stimulation of insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells, inhibition of intestinal glucose absorption, and enhancement of antioxidant enzyme activities. Clinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy in reducing blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and lipid levels while improving liver and kidney function markers in diabetic patients.
