Diabend-M

Diabend-M is a fixed-dose combination oral anti-diabetic medication developed and marketed by Bal Pharma Limited for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It contains two active pharmaceutical ingredients: **gliclazide**, a second-generation sulfonylurea, and **metformin**, a biguanide. Gliclazide works by binding to sulfonylurea receptors on pancreatic beta cells, which leads to the closure of ATP-sensitive potassium channels, cell depolarization, and subsequent insulin secretion. Metformin complements this by reducing hepatic glucose production (gluconeogenesis), decreasing intestinal absorption of glucose, and improving insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. This combination therapy is typically utilized when glycemic control is not achieved with monotherapy or lifestyle modifications alone.
