Overview

Diacerein + sibutramine is a combination drug consisting of diacerein, an anthraquinone derivative with anti-inflammatory properties primarily used in the treatment of osteoarthritis, and sibutramine, a centrally acting serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) previously used as an anti-obesity agent. Diacerein acts mainly by inhibiting interleukin-1 beta activity and reducing cartilage degradation. Sibutramine promotes weight loss by inhibiting the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin in the central nervous system, leading to increased satiety and reduced appetite. While both drugs have distinct mechanisms—diacerein for joint inflammation and cartilage protection, sibutramine for weight management—their combination is not standard or widely studied in clinical practice. Sibutramine has been withdrawn from many markets due to cardiovascular safety concerns[2][6][7]. There are no major published studies or regulatory approvals specifically for this combination.
