Diallyl tetrasulfide is an **organosulfur compound** found in garlic (Allium sativum) as part of a family of diallyl polysulfides. Its structure consists of two allyl groups linked by a chain of four sulfur atoms. Diallyl tetrasulfide is a metabolic product of allicin and other polysulfides in garlic. It has been noted in research for its potential **anticancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties** similar to related trisulfide and disulfide analogs. The anti-cancer action is thought to involve induction of apoptosis, regulation of cell cycle arrest, modulation of metabolizing enzymes, and inhibition of invasion/metastasis pathways. Mechanistically, diallyl tetrasulfide is also recognized as a **hydrogen sulfide (H2S) donor**, modulating redox status and signaling in cells, and may engage targets involved in cell death, inflammation, and detoxification pathways. Primary studies denote activity in a variety of preclinical models, but there is no pharmaceutical use or approved indication for this compound.
