Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dialysate fluid + filtration replacement fluid is a combination of two sterile solutions used in renal replacement therapies, particularly continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and related dialysis modalities. - **Dialysate** is a specially formulated aqueous solution containing electrolytes and other solutes that facilitates the removal of waste products, toxins, and excess electrolytes from the blood by diffusion across a semipermeable membrane during dialysis. - **Filtration replacement fluid** (also called substitution or reinfusion fluid) is an isotonic sterile solution administered to replace the volume of plasma water removed during convective clearance (hemofiltration or hemodiafiltration). It helps maintain electrolyte balance, acid-base status, and intravascular volume while supporting solute clearance by convection. This combination enables both diffusive (via dialysate) and convective (via filtration/replacement) mechanisms for solute removal in therapies such as continuous veno-venous hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF), which are commonly used for critically ill patients with acute kidney injury or severe chronic kidney disease[3][4][8]. The specific composition of each component can be tailored to patient needs.
