Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dianeal PD1 is a sterile, non-pyrogenic peritoneal dialysis solution developed and manufactured by Baxter. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of patients with chronic renal failure or acute kidney injury who require peritoneal dialysis. The solution functions by utilizing the patient's peritoneum as a semi-permeable membrane; metabolic waste products and excess fluid are removed from the blood into the dialysis solution through the processes of diffusion and osmosis. Dianeal PD1 is specifically formulated with a dextrose (glucose) concentration to provide the necessary osmotic gradient for ultrafiltration and an electrolyte profile that typically includes a lower calcium concentration (1.5 mEq/L) compared to standard solutions. This low-calcium formulation is designed to assist in the management of mineral and bone disorders, such as hypercalcemia, which are common in renal patients. It is administered intraperitoneally via a catheter and is available in various dextrose strengths to tailor fluid removal to the patient's clinical needs.
