Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dianeal PD4 is a peritoneal dialysis solution used for the treatment of kidney failure. It is a glucose-based solution containing electrolytes including sodium chloride, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, and sodium lactate as a bicarbonate precursor. The solution works through osmosis and diffusion across the peritoneal membrane to remove water and waste products from the blood while correcting abnormal levels of blood components. Dianeal PD4 is available in multiple glucose concentrations (1.36%, 2.27%, and 3.86%), with higher glucose concentrations providing greater fluid removal capacity. The solution is administered intraperitoneally through a catheter into the peritoneal cavity. Dianeal PD4 is particularly useful for controlling serum calcium and phosphate levels in renal failure patients receiving calcium or magnesium-containing phosphate binders. The solution has a low calcium formulation (1.25 mmol/L) compared to standard peritoneal dialysis solutions. Manufactured by Baxter Healthcare, Dianeal PD4 has been used globally for over 40 years and is currently sold in over 75 countries worldwide.
