Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DIASIT-M is a fixed-dose combination antidiabetic medication developed and manufactured by Omnica Laboratories, a WHO-GMP certified pharmaceutical company based in Nepal. It combines sitagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, with metformin, a biguanide. Sitagliptin functions by inhibiting the DPP-4 enzyme, which slows the inactivation of incretin hormones like glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), thereby increasing insulin secretion and decreasing glucagon levels in a glucose-dependent manner. Metformin works primarily by decreasing hepatic glucose production, decreasing intestinal absorption of glucose, and improving insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. DIASIT-M is indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control.
