DiaVacs DC-reg therapy is an autologous cell-based immunotherapy platform designed to induce immune tolerance and regulation. The technology involves harvesting a patient's own dendritic cells and treating them *ex vivo* with a proprietary mixture of three antisense phosphorothioate oligodeoxynucleotides (AS-ODNs). These AS-ODNs specifically target and downregulate the primary transcripts of the co-stimulatory molecules CD40, CD80, and CD86. By suppressing the expression of these molecules, the dendritic cells are converted into a regulatory phenotype (DC-regs). When re-infused into the patient, these DC-regs promote the formation of regulatory T cells and suppress pathogenic autoimmune responses, such as the attack on pancreatic beta cells in Type 1 Diabetes. The platform is also being investigated for its potential to mitigate hyper-inflammatory responses (cytokine storms) associated with SARS-CoV-2 infections.
