Dibotermin alfa is a recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein 2 (rhBMP‑2), produced using Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells. It is an osteoinductive biologic that binds to receptors on mesenchymal cells, inducing their differentiation into cartilage and bone-forming cells. This promotes new bone formation at the site of implantation, accelerating healing in open tibial shaft fractures and reducing the need for secondary interventions. Dibotermin alfa is primarily used as an adjunct to standard care in certain types of acute tibia fractures and intervertebral disc degeneration.
