dichloralphenazone

Dichloralphenazone is a sedative-hypnotic molecular complex containing one molecule of phenazone and two molecules of chloral hydrate. It was historically used for short-term insomnia and as a sedative component of certain oral headache products, including fixed-dose products that also contained isometheptene mucate and acetaminophen. The complex dissociates into its constituents; chloral hydrate-derived central nervous system depressant effects provide sedation, while phenazone contributes analgesic and antipyretic activity. Dichloralphenazone is a Schedule IV controlled substance in the United States and its clinical use is now limited or obsolete.
