Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dichloroisoproterenol (DCI) is a synthetic small molecule and the first beta blocker ever developed. It is a non-selective partial agonist/antagonist at both β1-adrenergic and β2-adrenergic receptors. DCI was primarily of historical importance as it led to the development of clinically useful beta blockers such as propranolol. Although it has low potency and was not used clinically, it has been studied in investigational settings for conditions like insulin resistance and polycystic ovary syndrome. Chemically, DCI is a derivative of isoproterenol with chlorine substitutions on the phenolic hydroxyl groups[1][3][8].
