Dicitrinone I is a rare carbon-bridged citrinin dimer isolated from the starfish-derived symbiotic fungus *Penicillium sp.* GGF 16-1-2. As a secondary metabolite, it belongs to a class of compounds known for their structural complexity and diverse biological profiles. In preclinical research, dicitrinone I has demonstrated potent antifungal activity against the plant pathogen *Colletotrichum gloeosporioides*. Additionally, it has been evaluated for its antineoplastic potential, showing cytotoxic activity against human pancreatic cancer cell lines, including BXPC-3 and PANC-1. While the specific molecular targets of dicitrinone I are still under investigation, related analogs in the same chemical series have been shown to induce apoptosis in cancer cells through the activation of caspase-3 proteins.
