Overview
Cytopan is a marketed generic fixed-dose combination of diclofenac sodium and misoprostol, developed and manufactured by Getz Pharma. Diclofenac sodium is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that provides analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzymes, thereby reducing prostaglandin synthesis. Misoprostol is a synthetic prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) analog that acts as an agonist at prostaglandin E receptors (specifically EP2, EP3, and EP4) on gastric parietal cells to inhibit gastric acid secretion and protect the gastrointestinal mucosa. This combination is indicated for the acute and chronic treatment of signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and acute musculoskeletal disorders in patients at high risk of developing NSAID-induced gastric and duodenal ulcers.
