Overview

Diclofenac diethylammonium is a salt form of diclofenac used primarily in topical formulations for the treatment of pain and inflammation associated with musculoskeletal conditions. Diclofenac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX)-1 and COX-2 enzymes. This inhibition reduces the synthesis of prostaglandins—mediators involved in pain and inflammation. It is indicated for relief from mild to moderate pain due to osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis as well as injury-related inflammation such as sprains or strains. Topical forms are commonly used for localized musculoskeletal pain[1][2][3][4][5]. The drug was originally developed by Ciba-Geigy (now part of Novartis).
