Overview
Diclofenac potassium + thiocolchicoside is a fixed-dose combination therapy comprising a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and a muscle relaxant. Diclofenac potassium acts by inhibiting cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), which are enzymes responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins that mediate pain and inflammation. Thiocolchicoside is a semi-synthetic derivative of colchicoside that functions as a competitive GABA-A receptor antagonist and a glycine receptor antagonist, providing muscle relaxant effects by modulating spinal and supraspinal neurotransmission. This combination is primarily developed for the management of acute musculoskeletal pain and muscle spasms, such as acute severe low back pain. Verisfield Single Member S.A. is currently conducting Phase III clinical trials in Greece and Cyprus to evaluate the efficacy and safety of this combination compared to diclofenac monotherapy.
