Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Diclofenac sodium (DIC075V) is a novel injectable formulation of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) diclofenac, designed for intravenous administration. This formulation uses hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin as a solubilizing agent to enable rapid bolus IV injection. DIC075V acts primarily by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), leading to reduced synthesis of prostaglandins and other eicosanoids involved in pain and inflammation. It has been developed for the management of acute moderate-to-severe pain, particularly postoperative pain following orthopedic or abdominal surgery. Clinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy compared to placebo and active comparators such as ketorolac[1][6][7]. The product was developed by Javelin Pharmaceuticals and later acquired by Pfizer.
