Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a fixed-dose combination drug consisting of **diclofenac sodium**, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, and **misoprostol**, a synthetic prostaglandin E1 analog with gastroprotective effects. Diclofenac inhibits the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX), reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins that mediate inflammation and pain. Misoprostol protects the gastric and duodenal mucosa by replacing prostaglandins depleted by NSAIDs, decreasing gastric acid secretion, and increasing mucus and bicarbonate secretion. The combination is primarily indicated to treat osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis in patients at high risk of developing NSAID-induced gastric or duodenal ulcers[2][3][5][7][9][10][12].
