Overview

Diclofenac sodium + safinamide is a combination of two small molecule drugs. Diclofenac sodium is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes COX-1 and COX-2, thereby reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins involved in inflammation, pain, and fever[1][4]. Safinamide is a selective, reversible monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) inhibitor used as an adjunct therapy for Parkinson's disease. It enhances dopaminergic function by inhibiting MAO-B-mediated dopamine degradation and also inhibits glutamate release, blocks voltage-dependent sodium and calcium channels, and inhibits dopamine reuptake[2][5][6]. This combination would theoretically provide both anti-inflammatory/analgesic effects from diclofenac and neuroprotective/antiparkinsonian effects from safinamide.
